FASHIONISTA SPOTLIGHT: Megan Amraen

Fashionista Spotlight

The cold weather has finally struck Blacksburg as we had our first snowflakes of the season last week. Fashionistas around campus have been adding layers to their looks to dress for the season while staying warm. This Fashionista stood out to me because of her bright, floral patterned dress as well as her classic riding boots, which are a popular trend around campus. I thought her look was something many other Fashionistas on campus would enjoy wearing.

Name: Megan Amraen

Major: Public Relations and Spanish

Year: Sophomore

CollegeFashionista: So what exactly are you wearing?

Megan Amraen: My dress, tights and boots are all Target purchases! My sweater is from Urban Outfitters online. I've loved finding simple pieces from Target. They have so many great basic options that I can easily dress up with jewelry and more expensive purchases. I don't typically wear much jewelry, but I always wear my pearl stud earrings. I'm pretty sure they're from Macy's.

CF: Is there a fashion staple you have always wanted to buy?

MA: Lately, I've really wanted to buy Hunter rain boots or Bean boots. I love wearing boots. I have five pairs of leather, so I think either the Hunter or Bean boots would be great additions to my collection.

CF: In your opinion, what do you think is an item every Fashionista should have in her closet?

MA: I think every Fashionista should rely on basics and always have basic T-shirts and sweaters. I'm all about wearing understated items and pairing them with bolder colors and patterns. For example, I'll wear a plain color shirt or sweater paired with a bold scarf at least once a week. Scarves are also crucial items to own.

CF: How would you describe your personal style and what do you think influences it?

MA: I would say my personal style is a mix of boho and preppy. I love wearing loose fitting clothing, and I tend to go for boho/vintage styles when shopping. I'll also have days where I definitely look preppy. I can't pinpoint one certain style. Taylor Swift is definitely one of my style icons and I'll occasionally take style cues from Seventeen.

How To: My favorite part of this Fashionista’s look was that most of the pieces were Target purchases, which is a store that not only offers lots of variety but is also easy to shop in on a college budget. Try buying a floral dress and riding boots like these from Target to achieve her look. Adding a sweater adds your own personal take on the outfit when you choose from a variety of colors, patterns and styles.
