FASHIONISTA SPOTLIGHT: Mary Ellen Branisteanu

Fashionista Spotlight

This week I found the ultimate Fashionista as I spotted her coming home from a day at work. This Fashionista works at 310 Rosemont which is an upscale boutique in downtown Blacksburg. Her look caught my eye as she was wearing one of my favorite fall trends: the crochet sweater. Her accessories and riding boots complimented her outfit perfectly.

Name: Mary Ellen Branisteanu

Major: Marketing

Year: Sophomore

CollegeFashionista: So, tell me about the pieces you are wearing.

Mary Ellen Branisteanu: My sweater is an oversized crochet sweater from Free People and I am wearing a scarf from Calvin Klein. My jeans are from 7 For All Mankind, and my boots are the Colin Stuart Riding Boots. As for my accessories, I paired this outfit with J.Crew stud earrings, a Dogeared Faith cross necklace, my Michael Kors watch, bangles from Loft, a Pandora braided leather bracelet, a wrap bracelet from 310 Rosemont and a skull bracelet from 310 Rosemont as well. This is the perfect example of a go-to fall outfit for me. It's comfortable, but chic and trendy.

CF: How would you describe your personal style?

MEB: My personal style is clean cut and preppy, while incorporating some bohemian elements. I like to wear classic pieces with a bohemian twist. For example, oversized sweaters, loose blouses, big watches with tons of bracelets creating a chunky effect.

CF: What are some staple items in your wardrobe?

MEB: Some of my staple clothing items include dark wash jeans, boots, scarves and oversized sweaters. Staple accessories for me include a chunky watch, tons of layered bracelets and a dainty necklace to add some focus at the neck and any turquoise jewelry.

CF: What are some new trends you are excited to wear this fall?

MEB: This fall I'm most excited about pairing colored denim with chambray shirts. This look is laid back and collegiate. The colorful pants give a fun vibe, while the chambray shirt looks put-together, yet relaxed.

How To: The crochet sweater is the ideal weight for chilly fall days because it provides some coverage without weighing you down too much while you are bustling around campus. Plus, letting it fall off the shoulder makes it look flirty and relaxed. To achieve this Fashionista’s look, try to pair a crochet sweater with a bold scarf for your fashionable fall look.
