LET’S HEAR IT FOR THE BOYS: Peek-a-boo Plaid

Let's Hear it for the Boys

If you take a walk through UAB’s Business and Engineering Complex, you will see dozens of potential CEOs rocking dress pants and button-downs. On this side of campus, Fashionisto’s outfits are more likely to resemble that of mini business moguls as opposed to the grunge look most guys tend to shoot for.

This Fashionisto’s style can be described as classy, yet relevant. The classic look of charcoal pants, a shirt and tie has been modernized by the bright colors and thoughtful accessories. This mix is perfect for transitioning from his internship during the day to grabbing a cocktail at night.

This Fashionisto understands that professors, future employers and younger students are watching us. There are a thousand combinations of a pairing a plaid shirt and a sweater, but this Fashionisto impressed me with his careful color consideration with the purple and orange. A softer alternative to the orange is this sea-foam green sweater from Brooks Brothers.

The loafers that this Fashionisto is working caught my eye shortly after I saw the orange sweater. The fringe shown gives the workplace staple a little edge. A tassel on this ASOS pair adds a little flair to the classic shoe. I suggest choosing a black over a brown so that your dress shoes won’t be confused with moccasins.

Charcoal slacks can be refreshing in a sea of black and allow black accessories to stand out more. Most men’s biggest fashion faux pas is mismatching accessories. Not just any belt works with any tie. Pick one color or metal in accessories and stick to it.

Hint: Try dressing up your daily look for class. You never know who will notice—a professor, a crush or even a fashionable friend. Maybe you will even catch the eye of the person who has been catching your eye all semester.
