LET’S HEAR IT FOR THE BOYS: Our Great Gatsby

Let's Hear it for the Boys

Ke$ha may wake up in the morning feeling like P. Diddy, but this Fashionisto has higher aspirations for his morning. In F. Scott Fitzgerald’s novel The Great Gatsby, Jay Gatsby is quite the character with his lush parties and extravagant lifestyle; I’m not sure how someone can wake up feeling like Gatsby and still be motivated to attend class at 8 am.

Young men in Alabama are not exactly known for experimentation in the fashion department. Most guys either rely on the comfy ensemble of a T-shirt and jeans, or they aim for a more preppy approach with loafers and a button-down. This Fashionisto took the uniform of the former and added his own unique touches to spice it up.

Leather tennis shoes help dress up the outfit without making the Fashionisto looking ridiculous. This Puma pair designed by Alexander McQueen is very clean cut, but the Alexander McQueen insignia in gold adds little contrast to an otherwise monochromatic shoe.

All across college campuses and Pinterest boards, one can see that American classics are not just lining our shelves, but our closets as well. For example, this T-shirt is based on a book cover of the book Walden that is no longer being published, as is this Moby Dick T-shirt.

You can never go wrong with adding a button-down to any outfit. Slipping one over a T-shirt can transform a slouchy weekend look into an outfit that you feel confident talking to your teacher in.

Hint: As spring approaches, don’t be afraid to sneak in color to your outfit wherever you can. Small pops of color brighten up a look. For a casual outfit, you could add colored shoes or rock a bright T-shirt.
