FASHIONISTA SPOTLIGHT: Shaun Rose

Fashionista Spotlight

One of my go-to trends is print mixing. While mixing prints, you can never really go wrong because you get to combine two prints (or more if your feeling funky) that catch your eye. So, already the outfit will be unique. Brands such as J.Crew have utilized this trend well by utilizing an unexpected yet innovative method of mixing prints, while always maintaining clean and tailored silhouettes. Many are hesitant to try print mixing but it's something everyone should give a shot. It is fun and it gives you the opportunity to be as creative as you want. This week's CollegeFashionista put her own spin on the trend and it was a hit!

Name: Shaun Rose

Major: Fashion Merchandising

Year: Freshman

CollegeFashionistaWhat inspired you to mix these prints?

Shaun Rose: I love mixing prints, sometimes people say you're not allowed to mix stripes with polka-dots, but with the right colors almost anything can match!

CF: How would you describe your style?

SR: My style is based on vintage and retro-inspired characteristics with occasional eclectic prints. My everyday style is unexpected, you never know when I'm going to pull out the “business casual” or my favorite “'90s chic” looks.

CF: How do everyday people inspire you, style-wise?

SR: Living in New York my everyday inspirations come from casual street styles. I observe different styles and mix and match them to fit myself.

CF: What is your favorite thing about getting dressed everyday?

SR: Being able to show my personality through my clothes and knowing that no matter what I wear no one can wear an outfit exactly like mine.

CF: What do you plan on doing with your major?

SR: There's so much I haven't learned yet, so for now all I'm interested in is learning more than I know about my major and having experiences that will help me choose a profession.

CF: You're the first freshman I've photographed so far for CAU. How does that feel?

SR: I'm honored to be the first photographed at CAU ! Hopefully I'll be the one behind the camera soon.

How To: To achieve this super cool look first choose a blazer in any print you like. This style from Zara is awesome. Next, find a spandex tank dress. American Apparel has a lovely tribal print one. Finish your look with wedges and a shoulder bag in a neutral tone such as black, so it won't clutter your look. Take some inspiration from Man Repeller and stack on bracelets for an “arm party.”
