STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Viva La Maxi

Fashionista Spotlight

For a while there, minuscule seemed to be the only acceptable length for skirts and dresses, but not anymore, Fashionistas. While I will never deny that miniskirts and short dresses make any girl feel flirty and sexy, it’s time to set ourselves free from this limiting stereotype. How, you ask? By following the likes of Chloé, Chanel, Alexander Wang and Stella McCartney’s Spring 2011 runway looks and wearing a full-length dress or skirt!

This Bruin Fashionista dressed up in a sweet, floral-patterned and layered maxi dress with leather sandals and simple gold necklaces. You too can easily rock this sophisticated style. Dresses are especially effortless because they’re just one piece, leaving you to think only of accessories and shoes. Skirts are a little tougher, since you need to find top that matches well with it. Tucking in a soft plain white v-neck or tank and using a thin belt typically works.

Hint: Explore some tribal prints or try a sheer fabric that still shows off some leg. I have a slight obsession with clothes that are strapless, like this dress from Lulu's. However, if you want something that resembles this week's Fashionista's look, check out this floral maxi. Or maybe you are into a darker, edgier feel? If so, Style Stalker makes a black dress that could be perfect for you.
