When Michael Kors recently tweeted, “Don't wear anything you feel uncomfortable in, it will be a #confidence killer! #styletip,” I immediately thought of similar advice that this week's Fashionista had once given me. As a result of this fashion philosophy, I have admired this Fashionista's style since the day I met her. Deanna Scopino's strong emphasis on comfort allows her to seamlessly put chic outfits together that enable her to truly convey her personality as she confronts her day head-on. And let's face it — what is better than walking in to a room like you own the place?
Name: Deanna Scopino
Major: Fashion Merchandising
Year: Senior
CollegeFashionista: Can you describe your style in three words?
Deanna Scopino: I can in 5 — completely dependent on my mood. My style changes on a daily basis. Sometimes I dress in a preppy manner, sometimes sporty, sometimes girly and sometimes a total mixture. It's impossible for me to plan out my outfits in advance because 99% of the time I'll wake up in the morning and change my mind about what I want to wear that day.
CF: Who are your style icons? Any reason?
DS: Although I can't relate my personal style to her at all, I will always admire Erin Wasson. She always looks so comfortable, but very confident, in whatever she is wearing.
CF: What five pieces of clothing would you take to a deserted island?
DS: A J.Crew perfect-fit tank, a blazer, Gap or 7 For All Mankind jean leggings, a pair of Nine West wedges, and a tote bag. That doesn't sound very practical for a deserted island, but those are my essentials.
CF: How will you transition summer trends to the fall this year?
DS: Lots and lots of layering. I love being able to bring summer tanks and t-shirts into the fall by doing that. Scarves also, that's definitely a great way to transition a summer piece into the fall.
CF: Thigh-high slit skirts for fall. Yay or nay?
DS: I think they're a great update to the plain maxi skirt. I think I'd buy one, since my black maxi skirt has been a great piece to throw on with almost anything. I'm sure they'll be everywhere this fall.
How to: As the month of August comes to a close, many of us are wondering where the summer slipped off to. But for Fashionistas like Deanna Scopino, these last weeks of summer offer the perfect transition into Fall fashion trends. Go along with Deanna by wearing a brightly colored gingham J.Crew button down with a flattering, yet oh so comfortable pair of Gap's denim leggings. Dress up your arms like Deanna with a mixture of bangles and stackables, finished with a sleek Nixon watch. Throw on a pair of Nine West wedges and your outfit is ready for anything, day or night!
