The college requisite coffee stop pre-class is no news story; morning caffeine has been a necessity since some masochistic professor decided that 8am classes were a great idea. But because of the early morning alarm clocks there seems to be a dress code from the little coffee houses to the classroom of pajamas and sweatshirts, which unless you’re rocking the rag & bone pajama blouse, just isn’t going to cut it.
That being said, this week’s Fashionista surprised me with her hippie-chic leggings and boots ensemble at 7 am on my mad dash for an Anna Wintour special (no sugar, perfect temp). The earth-toned outfit stood out against the sea of black and gray like a breath of crisp colorful air. Her carefree attitude was so sunny that I felt almost like taking a hit of it would completely negate my need for the slow-roasted beans, which is exactly what an early morning class outfit should inspire in onlookers. And all this in what I like to call the wee hours of the morning before anyone has any reason to be cheery.
A frequenter of Urban Outfitters and online shopper of Free People, this Fashionista thrives on the same down-to-earth style choices that make Zoe Kravitz and Nicole Richie such style mavens. Sticking with tribal-lined Steve Maddens and a comfy sweater, her style secret for the early risers (even the reluctant ones) is just to wear what you feel.
One Simple Change: Though the laid-back style of leggings and sweater ensemble is perfect for the boho look, it does have a tendency to be inappropriate for a class presentation or first impressions. To make this look a little more put together, try adding a chic top bun hairstyle and dark skinny jeans like 7 for All Mankind’s high-waisted skinnies. These additions will make the look a little more grown-up while still maintaining the laid back back sweater feel and slender leg look.
