When I dream about pure Saturday morning bliss, I think of girl talk and bottomless mimosas with my fabulous friends! Of course, I do love a good breakfast in bed and Beverly Hills 90210 marathon-type of Saturday morning every now and then (or every weekend), but who doesn’t love a fancy early-afternoon brunch? Since I was a little girl, when my mom used to let me tag along to brunch with her girlfriends, I have had a special affinity for all things brunch-related — the friends, the food (hello bloody mary bar) and, most importantly, the fashion.
There’s something so old-school glam about a group of well-dressed women all chatting around the breakfast table. Brunch wardrobes typically prove to be a perfect combination of retro class and fashion-forward trendiness — The Help meets Sex and the City, if you will. Brunch is a time for women to dress for other women instead of the opposite sex; it’s a field day for Fashionistas in the sense that we can finally bust out all the pieces in our closets that we’re saving for that one occasion where they’re deemed appropriate. We all know there’s certain things that men will just never understand — three-hour long lunch dates, maxi skirts, floppy hats, oversize sunglasses…am I uncovering a pattern here?
I spotted this adorable Fashionista on her way to a breakfast date with her roommates at a cute downtown bistro. Dressed in a basic black maxi skirt, crisp denim button-up and a Bianca Jagger-style floppy hat, she exuded some serious southern belle swagger while staying casual enough for our little mountain town. Pairing her skirt with some dainty leopard flats and a slouchy leather carryall added a relaxed vibe to her dressy daytime look while incorporating texture and a pop of color. Because it’s still pretty chilly outside, this Fashionista rocked a chunky knit infinity scarf in place of a necklace and earrings. Of course, no brunch look is complete without a chic pair of sunglasses!
One Simple Change: If you’re going all-out for a truly fab brunch ensemble, swap out that cotton maxi for a sleek pair of retro cigarette pants. Pair them with a bold cardigan and a basic pair of flats, and you’ve got yourself a perfect mid-morning ensemble! This was Ms. Hepburn’s signature look, ladies and gents — and is there anyone more ‘60s chic than Audrey herself? Nope. Glam it up next time you grab breakfast with your girls and remember that all of your dainty feminine pieces deserve just as much airtime as your leggings and hoodies!
