“Today, skies are painted colors of a cowboy cliché.” These words, written and sung ever so magically by the talented John Mayer, seem to be the only ones that can accurately describe such a gorgeous October day in this little Arizona mountain-town. Though there’s a definite chill in the air, our autumn color schemes somehow still allow for cotton-candy sunsets and sunrises. While I’m normally a firm believer that October is strictly meant for earth tones and heavy textures, pastels seemed to be popping up all over campus this week…and I liked it. I spotted this particular Fashionista on her way to a midterm study session. With her Southwest-inspired accessories, turquoise jeans and floral-printed blouse, this stylish collegiate shows us all how to make our favorite spring pieces last deep into the fall season.
Name: Cheyenne Nichols
Major: Public Relations and Advertising
Year: Sophomore
CollegeFashionista: How would you describe your personal style?
Cheyenne Nichols: I would describe my style as very Southwestern and colorful with a vintage twist. I am part Cherokee, so I really love to wear turquoise and tribal prints as a way to reference my heritage. I try not to go overboard though – I keep it simple but I definitely love a little glitz.
CF: Where do you shop in Flag to get great pieces on a college budget?
CN: Actually, I’ve recently fallen in love with Kohl’s! They have really cute colored denim and trapeze tops, which I love right now. The Lauren Conrad line is always my favorite.
CF: What’s one piece you think every College Fashionista needs in her closet?
CN: I would probably say a high-waist spandex skirt. I have one in every color and they are so easy to dress up or down. They’re super cheap too, which is obviously a major bonus!
CF: What was your style inspiration today?
CN: Lately I have been very inspired by Pinterest. I’m a pinning addict! There are so many great ideas on that website and it helps me to revamp the clothes that I already own. I get great outfit ideas from scrolling through other people’s style boards and looking through all the amazing outfits I’ve pinned.
How To: Recreate this Fashionista’s adorable pastel look by piling on the accessories! Load up your wrists with beaded bracelets and antique turquoise, grab a brightly-colored satchel and dress up your feet with a quirky pair of fringe sandals – after all, we’ve only got a couple more weeks to show off our favorite toe-baring kicks before it’s strictly riding boots and Uggs. Sport a trendy pair of pastel skinnies and a silky blouse (layer a cute cardigan on top), and you’ll be looking as Southwest-chic as Cheyenne in no time!
