ACCESSORIES REPORT: Statement Shades

Uncategorized

Adding a unique accessory to an already gorgeous ensemble is perfectly comparable to a cherry on top of an ice cream sundae. Especially when we consider that this is the year of accessories — Elle Brasil (October 2012) has just covered a piece on the subject. Apparently, accessories have become as important as the clothing themselves. Brands that were specialized in clothes are now investing in accessory lines and vice-versa. Barneys New York and Saks Fifth Avenue have recently expanded their shoe collections and Schutz, originally a shoe and purse label, is now investing in clothes.

Funky sunglasses, as portrayed by this Fashionista, are one of the current accessory trends. I’m talking about Willy Wonka-inspired shades from Prada (spring 2011) and Apiece Apart (spring 2013) — although it’s possible that a tribute to the owner of the famous chocolate factory wasn’t what they were going for—and Baroque-inspired from Dolce&Gabbana (fall 2012). Let’s also not forget the colorful cat-like glasses that appeared in Missoni’s spring 2012 show. Each collection had a unique pair of shades and in some cases, they drew more attention than the outfits themselves.

Take the cue from this Fashionista and these mind-blowing collections and add funky sunglasses to your outfit. You may find great statement shades at: Nasty Gal, which I am obsessed with, ModCloth, and heart-shaped sunglasses at The Trend Boutique. Find out which of these suits you best and add that cherry on top to your outfit.
