Making Time for Fitness in a Busy Lifestyle

In college, any time you have a break from academic obligations you most likely will choose Netflix over working out at the gym. But then that may leave you feeling lethargic and probably worse than before. It’s now June and many New Year’s fitness resolutions have died. But it’s never too late to make your lifestyle healthier no matter how busy you are, and I am going to tell you how.

The most important part of this process is setting your goal. You’ll need a goal that is specific, measurable, attainable, and relevant. A smart goal if you will. An example could be, “I want to make time for fitness in my busy schedule so that by the start of fall semester it is part of my lifestyle. This’ll keep me motivated so that I can have more energy and boost my self-esteem.”

College is a busy time and the best way to survive is with a planner. By using this, you can realistically put aside time for fitness. Even when times get stressful or overwhelming, use working out as an outlet. It’s getting past those days that turn fitness into a thing you do occasionally into a lifestyle. There’s nothing wrong with compromising as long as you are staying positive. An example of this would be, “If I go to the gym I’ll go for 30 minutes instead of an hour, eat a healthier dinner, and reward myself with my new bath bomb tonight.”  It’s all about the mindset.

Motivation is key to keeping up with fitness and there are several ways to have it. First, getting new fitness gear to show off at the gym. From personal experience, wearing an outfit I feel good in with a cute new water bottle always makes me excited to show off at the gym. Second, following people who love fitness on social media. The best way to do so is to follow women who have like-minded goals regarding fitness giving a sense of community and encouragement. These are real girls with progress that you have literally seen with your own eyes. Lastly, a new playlist will do wonders. Want to feel like a hot boss killing the end of your workout when you really feel like laying down and never getting up? There’s a song for that. It makes you feel any type of way you want so you can associate fitness with a positive vibe. How can you be lazy when your jam is on?

If I can do this so can you. The most important keys to staying on track have been surrounding myself with supporters, my planner, and knowing that right now the body I was born with is awesome, but I’m going to make it even better by taking interest in my health.
