FASHIONISTA SPOTLIGHT: Stephanie Michael

Fashionista Spotlight

I love girls who have a genuine flair for style; you know, the ones that just effortlessly look cool. This Fashionista was effortlessly chic, indeed. As we were trying to find a good spot to take non-consulated pictures, regardless of slightly awkward interaction on my part, this Fashionista was adorable and understanding with her voluminous curls (again, I’m jealous) and preppy outfit.

Name: Stephanie Michael

Major: Pre-law

Year: Senior

CollegeFashionista: I love your outfit! Very menswear-inspired. Do you follow any fashion blogs or blogs in general?

Stephanie Michael: Thanks! I believe the top is actually called a boyfriend button-up. I don’t really follow particular fashion blogs, but I do find things randomly on Tumblr that definitely influence my style.

CF: You wake up in the morning and step up to your closet or wardrobe, what do you see most of?
SM: I definitely see a lot of navy and cream colored things in my closet. There are lots of button-ups and sweaters too. I think I tend to choose these things because they’re comfortable enough to chill in, but still have a trendy and classy feel to it. I basically feel like I get away with bumming out without anyone knowing. Slip-ons are always a plus since they’re always ready to go, but still look great.
CF: What do you think about fashion?
SM: I think fashion is a great way to express your emotions. My mood definitely influences what I wear for the day. There are days when I’m really relaxed and feeling adventurous, so I’ll throw on a pair of my favorite sneakers with a classic T-shirt and rock a book bag. Other times I’m feeling really girly, wearing chiffon tops with high-waisted shorts. Sometimes I’ll be meticulous about accessories, and other times I’ll try to randomly grab whatever seems to jump out at me. I sometimes feel like if you pay attention to what someone is wearing, you can tell what they’re feeling.
CF: If you could explain your style, how would you describe it?
SM: I don’t know if I could explain my style since I believe it is a hybrid of a whole bunch of things. I usually see a certain look, find something that I like about it and try to mesh it with other things that I’ve liked from other looks. A lot of the things I wear is done by trial and error. I just put things that I’ve liked separately together, and sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. My style is constantly evolving, and I love finding new influences to incorporate into it.
How To: To get this Fashionista’s prim, menswear-inspired look, try this toggle coat by Michael Kors, this fun polka-dotted shirt from UNIQLO and a muted A.P.C. sweatshirt. Add these high-rise BDG jeans for an extra pop of color and BP. flats from Nordstrom. This Fashionista highlights her accessories in the most primitive and intriguing way. Try playing around with dainty necklaces such as this one from Francesca’s and big statement rings.
