FASHIONISTA SPOTLIGHT: Shannon Fuentes

Fashionista Spotlight

With dreary skies and clammy air the past few days at Bucknell, Fashionistas are turning to basic fall pieces to accommodate the crisp fall chill. I spotted this Fashionista walking to class one morning and loved her oversize button-down and classic dark jeans. She was able to look casual and put together, which is a feat on a day when most Fashionistas were probably tempted to resort to sweatpants and a sweatshirt. Shannon mastered the art of putting basic pieces together while still maintaining admirable personal style.

Name: Shannon Fuentes

Major: Elementary Education, Studio Art Minor

Year: Sophomore

CollegeFashionista: What drives your fashion inspiration and how would you describe your personal style?

Shannon Fuentes: My outfits are chosen based on the place I'm going to be and the company I'm going to be with. When I am with a more conservative group, I would describe my style as clean-cut and classy. However, when I'm going to class or going out, I like to experiment with my outfits, making them somewhat edgy yet chic.

CF: Is there an item in your closet that you couldn’t live without?

SF: I could not live without my Frye boots or a jean jacket. Both items go with nearly any outfit and can be dressed up or down. They complete any look.

CF: Where do you love to shop?

SF: My favorite place to shop for clothes is alice + olivia. Their clothes are always bright, fun and young. Whenever I walk in, I find something that I NEED to buy and have to make an occasion to wear it. Henri Bendel in NYC is the best place to shop for accessories. The entire store is filled with costume jewelry, hair accessories and sunglasses. I can play in there for hours!

CF: What accessory always completes your look?

SF: I always have on my pair of Jennifer Miller stud earrings and matching ring. They are subtle yet give every outfit the perfect low-key accent.

How To: The key to attaining Shannon’s comfortable and cool style is to invest in basic pieces. Although a college student’s budget is often spent on Starbucks drinks or textbooks, I think it is important to occasionally splurge on basic pieces that can carry you through different seasons and will never go out of style. A great pair of skinny dark jeans, like these by Paige Denim, is so versatile and perfect for tucking into boots or pairing with your favorite sweater. A menswear-inspired button-down like Shannon’s, or this one from Madewell, is great for layering and throwing on in the morning. Keep your outfits from looking too simple by spicing it up with a statement necklace, like this bubble necklace from J.Crew.
