In my opinion, one of the most difficult aspects of fashion (at least on college campuses) is finding the balance between style and comfort. However, this Fashionista makes it look completely effortless and I just knew I had to do a feature on her. The balance, that elusive spot in-between casual and chic, that so many of us struggle to find, she manages to pull together perfectly.
Classic Chuck Taylor All Star’s are an incredibly popular choice here on campus. A nod to the grunge-era, these shoes are comfortable and pair well with many different outfits. Her simple top and palazzo-style pants are a perfect offset to the casual sneakers.
Name: Kate Freeman
College Fashionista: Where are your favorite places to shop?
KF: I usually shop online. Some of my favorite websites to visit are Forever 21, Urban Outfitters, Free People and this new site called Romwe.
CF: What are your favorite items in your closet?
KF: The Jeffrey Campbell Lita boot, in this great shade of coral. I have them in black, too. And these are non-specific… I wear stockings a lot, those are a must-have. High-waist skirts and crop tops.
CF: How would you describe your personal style?
KF: Edgy, urban, street style.
CF: What do you usually wear to campus?
KF: Tights and ankle boots with an oversized T-shirt and a cardigan.
CF: Where do you go for fashion inspiration?
KF: A lot of street-style websites and blogs. I really like lookbook.nu.
How To: Kate’s look is all about pairing simple pieces, proving that sometimes, simpler is indeed better. Instead of throwing on a pair of tight-fitting leggings, try a wide-leg look. You’ll be surprised by how flattering this silhoutte is! A soft-knit top is perfect for a day full of classes. Don’t forget to add a pair of red sunglasses!
