STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Versatility

Uncategorized

I’ve never been vey fond of traditional backpacks. They’re too big, too sporty and too reminiscent of elementary school. Sometimes if I need to carry many books, a backpack comes in handy, but otherwise a tote or large purse is my bag of choice. The beauty of a large purse or satchel is that it does double duty as both your everyday bag and your school bag. It’s big enough to hold a couple notebooks and folders but small enough for just your wallet, keys and planner.

When I spotted this Fashionista on campus, I was instantly envious of her bag. It’s a nice size that can be used as a purse, school bag or even an overnight bag. It has handles and a strap so it can be worn both on your arm or thrown over your shoulder. It’s a neutral khaki and brown leather that can be worn with almost any outfit imaginable. Is there is anything this bag can’t do?

This week’s Fashionista is wearing her khaki satchel with an embellished pea coat, distressed jeans and black boots. The light colored bag is a little unexpected but works with the outfit just as well as a black bag would.

Utilitarian and military inspired bags are a great addition to any wardrobe. Their versatile style will transition into the next season looking nice with both dark winter jackets and bright spring dresses. Army green, brown or khaki bags with leather trim are easy to find at many stores and online shops. Splurge on a bag with lots of pockets and embellishments or save with a simpler version. Either way, try not to make your old backpack too jealous.
