STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Flutter By

Style Advice of the Week

Grey scale outfits sound boring to a lot of Fashionistas, but when put together right, they can be sleek, fresh and fun despite the fact that they were not invited to be part of the rainbow.  Fifty shades might be a bit overboard, but two or three, especially including black, can be a great alternative to neutrals.  This Fashionista adapted the scheme for a sunny day with flying colors (irony intended).  Her black, accordion pleat maxi skirt is light and breathable and possesses that wonderful fluttering quality when she walks that should make any girl feel like a princess.  Tying up the grey blouse takes it from a dreary fall piece to last-days-of summer style instantly, while the silver necklace and distressed, grey-black bag add details and interest without interrupting the sharp look of the monochrome.   Obviously the aviators augment the summer theme, and the black sandals with hole-punch detail keep the grey scale consistent, just peaking out of the slit in her skirt as it moves.  Overall, the outfit is airy and full of life, despite the lack of color or defined accent piece.  Also, the belt-like detail on the bag is incredibly cool, and the size is great for doubling as a purse or book bag depending on where she’s going.  Since Labor Day has passed, we’re going to have to start cutting out the canvas and going for dark, leather bags instead.  This Fashionista is right on schedule for the season in all aspects of her look.
