From day one of life as a Style Guru, my interest in men’s fashions have really increased. I constantly research the trends, more than I have been with women’s styles! I check GQ Magazine’s style tab, Esquire and FashionBeans on a daily basis for everything from their coverage of Fashion Week to this season’s street style photography.
As I was looking at some of this season’s photos, I came across a ton of parkas of all colors, cuts and styles. I thought, what a perfect piece of outerwear for a Penn State guy. We all love Happy Valley, but I think the one thing that most of us would change is the weather, specifically the rain. So boys, if you are going to invest in one outerwear piece this spring semester at Penn State, make it a parka. Although they can be pretty pricey, a good parka will not only protect you from the wacky Penn State elements that change from 50 degrees and sunny one day to 3 degree wind chill to the next, you will also have a piece of color in your closet to change up your day to day look.
I found this Fashionisto out of the corner of my eye. On such a gloomy and grey day, how could you miss this great bright blue parka? Paired with a warm high V-neck sweater and classic blue jeans, parkas prove to be an easily styled piece that truly goes with anything. No more asking yourself, “What am I supposed to wear with this?” Parkas have no dress code; they’re versatile. Take it street style like this Fashionisto with a flat brim fitted hat and a pair of Vans sneakers. Or dress it up a bit with fitted jeans, a button down and motto boots or oxfords. There are a lot of places to find your own personal parka such as J.Crew and ASOS.
This week’s Fashionisto rocks a Los Angeles Angels fitted hat from 1997. It is always cool to see guys bringing out throwback accessories. A graphic hat always adds a more laid back look that is good for both day and night.
Esquire Magazine states, “A man needs but three coats; a parka, an everyday one and a formal one”. I couldn’t agree more with this, especially for a Penn Stater. So whatever the weather State College throws your way for whatever the occasion, going to class, a meeting, an interview, or just to go meet up with your friends, you can always count on your parka to complete your fresh look.
Hint: Parkas have been in style in the past, and are making a huge comeback. Don’t let a fear of a trend going out of style prevent you from finding your own.
