LET’S HEAR IT FOR THE BOYS: Doing It Different

Let's Hear it for the Boys

Difference is defined as a point or way in which people or things are not the same. In a school that attracts an extremely wide variety of interests, from everything to business to agriculture and visual arts to journalism, there are a lot of differences within our student body. Though, as I mentioned in last week’s post, the broad style of large universities is rather conformed.

When I spotted this Fashionisto, he stood out because his style was different. And in fact, when I asked him where he got his inspiration for his personal look, he told me that it was being different and standing out from your average college student.

I really love the look of this Fashionisto because it is classic city street style with a little bit of skater — everything from his flat brim hat down to his red sneakers. No, I did not find this Fashionisto walking down Abbot Kinney Street in Los Angeles, but in fact, in front of the HUB lawn.

This Fashionisto accessorizes perfectly. I love how he uses pops of consistent color throughout his look. It ties everything together in a subtle way. His canvas and leather strap bag provide the same purpose and utilities as any other backpack, but this one keeps up with a fresh and stylish look, rather than the same backpack you’ve been carrying around since freshman year of high school. The hat is the cherry on top to his really well styled accessories.

Every guy owns a button up shirt because they are great day to night pieces. Buttoning it all the way up will keep you on trend, and not to mention it is one of my favorite looks! Although the pattern of plaid is simple, it works well with the solids of the other pieces of the outfit. Paired with a light wash jean jacket, the contrast of blues works really well here.

With these occasional nice sunny days, spring has been teasing us. Denim jackets are an essential for spring because they are so versatile and great for layering, whether you are looking for a more dressed down approach, like going to class, or a more smart, casual look. Whatever your desired style may be, the jean jacket can fit into your wardrobe with pretty much anything from shorts and a T-shirt to a button-down and dark wash skinny jeans like this Fashionisto has on. I also like the added scarf in the pocket as an additional way to make something simple, different. A true Fashionisto likes to stand out.
