STYLE GURU BIO: Madeleine Roberge

Style Guru Bio

My name is Maddy Roberge and I’m in my third year studying Communications and Cultural Studies at Concordia University, situated in the beautiful and artsy city of Montreal. It’s safe to say I’m not the only Montrealer who’s addicted to vintage clothing, and I think this city has done wonders for my fashion sense. This is why I can’t wait to start sharing the inspiring looks I see her on a day-to-day basis with the rest of the world on CollegeFashionista!

I grew up in a suburban area of Toronto, so I’m pretty excited to now be living in downtown Montreal—I love being surrounded by all types of inspiring people. As for my own taste, I love patterns. I’m particularly obsessed with florals, but I love tribal-esque designs as well. I’m fascinated by all the different materials and interesting textures clothes can have, and everything in my closet is unique to the touch. I’m also your typical cheap student—I shop almost exclusively at second hand stores. I’m a firm believer that it is possible to look trendy on a budget. The coat I’m wearing in this photo was ten dollars from Salvation Army! Though I love earth tones, I think pops of color are essential to spicing up an outfit. I love lipstick, oversized bags, scrunchies, maxi skirts, lace, silk scarves and patterned denim. Aesthetically, I’m inspired by old french films and designers such as Marc Jacobs and Mara Hoffman.

Another thing I love doing is reworking old pieces of cheap jewelry or trinkets I’ve collected into something new. I’ve lately become obsessed with accessories, as I’m running out of space in my closet for new clothes and have a slight phobia of throwing anything out. I love experimenting with the way an entire outfit can have a completely different feel by the way its accessorized. I’m really looking forward to reporting on Concordia’s most interesting jewelry, bags, scarves, shoes, etc.!
