The denim-on-denim trend has reached its height in popularity: it has officially crossed over to both genders. Many feel that you can’t wear denim on denim, but I think many are wrong. Granted, wearing blue denim on blue denim can be a little much — you can't pretend it is an easy look to pull off. But contrasting shades of denim look sleek and chic, as seen with this Fashionisto.
Calvin Klein showed a head-to-toe pale denim look on the spring 2009 catwalk. Since then, the trend has shown up many times. Some key tips to pulling off this trend include contrasting the shades and textures of the denim, keeping the other pieces in your outfit muted, and including a belt to break up the look.
The Fashionisto pictured is sporting a denim shirt from H&M and jeans from Urban Outfitters. His shoes are Nike “Spike Lee Pack” (with very cool Spike Lee glasses on the tongue!), and his jacket is by OBEY Clothing. The contrasting colors of his denim shirt and jeans make the denim-on-denim trend extremely edgy.
While you’re layering to combat the winter’s cold, try pairing a chambray shirt with jeans for an ultrachic look!
