Keeping an outfit low-key does not require sacrificing style. The simplest items can make the boldest statements. Graphic prints cover this season’s styles, from pants and skirts to blazers and tops. My favorite print-covered piece, however, is a cozy sweater. Melding fashion and comfort, a warm, graphic sweater is the perfect way to spice up your fall wardrobe.
This Fashionista combatted a gloomy day on campus by donning dark basics with a punch of eye-catching color. An emerald green and patterned sweater served as the statement piece, adding whimsicality to an everyday campus ensemble. She chose all black to ground the bold pattern. Black skinnies, riding boots and a black cowl neck scarf balance both the vivid color and sprawling pattern of the sweater.
Some of my favorite graphic sweaters this season have just one large graphic rather than an overall print, reminding me of the crazy sweaters I wore in the ‘90s. However, versions like Joie’s sweaters with vintage graphics or J.Crew’s animal printed confections have a more mature feel. Torn by Ronny Kobo has a line of sweaters featuring French sayings that is très chic. These cutesy sweaters can be worn without fear of having a bad ‘90s flashback.
Take a cue from this Fashionista and pair them with one dark color like navy, black or brown. Alternatively, choose structured pieces like a pair of skinny jeans or a streamlined pencil skirt to balance both a slouchy top and striking pattern. This fall, sweaters feature abstract patterns, animals, ironic sayings and other unique graphics, providing plenty of options for a Fashionista to make a bold and personal statement.
