Living Like Locals: Florence Edition

Summer in Florence, Italy is like something I have never experienced. The weather is blazing hot during the day, and the locals somehow manage to wear pants and jackets no matter the temperature. Compared to my usual weather in Michigan, if it rises above 50 degrees everyone whips out their shorts and sandals. Finding a balance to coordinate between the low tolerance for heat, and wanting to blend in with the locals, is a challenge that Fashionistas abroad willingly accept.

Florence has an endless amount of boutiques to assist with this transition. One thing I learned quickly when I first arrived in Italy—if you see something cute, buy it. The odds of being able to find the boutique again are slim, and then you’ll be lying in bed for weeks thinking about that perfect pair of gold, platform espadrilles that would match your entire wardrobe (I have personal experience with this tragic event).

This Fashionista found a pair of high-waisted navy, pants to stay on trend with the wide leg look. I recently have become obsessed with the color navy. It’s a staple item in my wardrobe, no matter what season it is. These pants are also quite versatile with whatever top you choose to pair it with. Try a patterned top for a bolder look. Her top is a basic white top for some flare. Tassels are one of my favorite trends so far this season! They add some fun to any piece. This shirt would also be cute with a classic pair of jean shorts. She is finishing the look off with round sunglasses and blush sandals.

This look can be dressed up with platform espadrilles and simple gold jewelry. This is the perfect ensemble for going to your summer class, brunch with your girlfriends, or a coffee date. Both pieces are easy to mix and match with just about anything in your closet.
