Mint green went from being a color that we rarely saw in fashion to one that is taking over the fashion world. Not only is this hue crisp, clean and summery, but also it is very versatile. Like this Fashionista proves, mint green can be worn in a lightweight, warm weather jacket or strung onto the chain of a simple beaded necklace. The classic mixture of rich blacks and sweet mint green, inspiration taken from mint chocolate chip ice cream (one of my favorite treats) gives us a heaping scoop of style symbolism. Mint green sandals juxtaposed against a billowy, black maxi dress (or skirt) is sure to impress your peers around campus. Once they spot your decadent ensemble, this up-and-coming trend is sure to spread faster than anticipated news of the ice cream man.
While many of people think of anything mint as a holiday color, the summer style that comes from this hue is vast. From black, to the dyed threads of frayed denim and all the way to spotless white of summer sunnies, mint green looks appealing with plenty of colors you already have in your closet. One color combination that is aesthetically pleasing and appropriate for summer is mint and lavender. Like the beloved hues of Parisian pastel sorbet, this appetizing palette is sure to look delicious on anyone daring to indulge. A trend that I am currently obsessed with is mint green toothpick denim. Taking this gorgeous pair of mint pants from J.Crew, or something similar, and pairing it with a flouncy lavender top will have you looking like you just walked out of the latest publication of Vogue. Make sure that when you wear this trend you stick to tones of opposing saturation. Wearing two extremely bright pieces can tend to be harsh on the eyes. If you wear bright lavender pants, try and pair it with a top that is softer and subtler. This way your outfit will blend into one delectable concoction.
Mint is a style that I am betting every Fashionista will be drooling over by the end of summer 2012. Whether it’s in a new lace top from Urban Outfitters or a summer dress from Francesca’s, no matter how you wear mint green I am sure you will be craving a second helping.
