STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: I Love The ’90s

Style Advice of the Week

Big hair scrunchies, high socks and mini skirts seemed to be the major building blocks of the ‘90s. The movie Clueless is the perfect summation of such trends. As Cher struts through her high school in her impeccable outfits created by her highly technical closet, you can see that the majority of her tops remain perfectly tucked in to their skirts and jeans. To avoid constantly adjusting your waistband, take a cue from the students of this Beverly Hills high school as well as this Fashionista and invest in a leotard.

You might even look back at all those gymnastics classes your parents once invested in as a kid. As out there as some of those old, patterned leotards may be, do not ignore their potential as part of a fabulous outfit. If you joke about all those workout outfits from the ‘80s or ‘90s when sifting through a thrift store, take a moment to try them on with some high-waist bottoms. Those neon colors could offset your new summer tan perfectly. The added glitz of a velvet fabric could add the perfect amount of texture to an otherwise flat outfit.

This Fashionista found her Christopher Kane-inspired galaxy print from her local thrift store. She perfectly offsets this print with black denim shorts. The slender silhouette that a spandex leotard gives you serves as a perfect compromise with the more baggy or flowy bottoms that have been so popular this year. Also take a cue from this Fashionista’s menswear-inspired shoes. Even a plain leotard would maintain a feminine silhouette with masculine accessories, blazers or trousers. It may be more of a circus act to go to the bathroom, but the overall effect will be well worth the added hassle.
