STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Black Hot

Style Advice of the Week

The ever changing color palettes in the world of fashion are always in tune with the season. Fall and winter bring out your darker side, while spring and summer lighten you up. This certainty can make it hard to translate more unlikely colors across every season. This Fashionista glided down the street as if she was the vampy Morticia Addams in a sea of summer dresses. She managed to combat the flood of florals and neons on the market with her gothic edge. However, she still kept in tune with this summer’s trends of fishtail hems and cropped tanks.

It seems impractical and less lively to let black dominate your summer wardrobe, but by utilizing lighter fabrics, this Fashionista makes it work. The chiffon skirt with the cotton tank makes this ensemble more breathable in the summer heat. Look for the more interesting silhouettes in these darker hues to add even more edge, as this Fashionista did with her skirt.

The silver accents in her accessories and shoes keep the overall color palette cool. Silver is an intriguing combination with the warmer tones of summer. Note the added twist with the skeleton sunglasses that rival John Lennon’s. Paying attention to those more gothic details can push the boundaries of simpler ensembles. Switching up the brighter lipsticks with more burgundy hues is another unexpected twist.

Even though summer shades often attempt to banish the black, there is something about that color that just adds a bit more mystery and sophistication. Starting with the basic blacks and grays can increase the potential of an outfit as well as make it more flattering. Remember, there is a reason why a little black dress is a staple in a woman’s wardrobe.
