Now that we’re all slowly drifting away from the sequined dresses and reindeer sweaters, it’s time to enjoy some shopping that doesn’t break the bank. What better way to do so than thrifting? Most college students are guilty of spending hours combing through racks of recycled clothes. Of course, when you go thrifting, you have to look the part.
I found this gem of a Fashionista downtown, thrifting and enjoying what is left of this winter break amidst the gloom. Even in Southern California, Fashionistas/os know that the best way to fight those oh-so-frigid mid-60s temperatures is by layering. I instantly gravitated towards this Fashionista because not only did she incorporate the warm and folksy visuals that you encounter in every thrift and vintage store, but she added her own twist by adding some grungy bling.
To perfectly execute an urban layered look like this Fashionista, the main things to keep in mind are color and texture. To start off, wearing all-black basics inside and supplementing them with an earth-tone plaid button-up creates an indie vibe. Add a woodsy colored cargo jacket and some distressed Dr. Martens, and you have achieved the first stage of the look. The tricky part lies within the accessories. Like this Fashionista, an urban twist can be pulled off by mixing chunky and dainty gold chains of different lengths. To finish off the whole look, add a dark lipstick and a personalized beanie and you’ve got yourself the perfect thrifting ensemble.
One thing to keep in mind when creating the perfect look for a day of thrifting is comfort. This Fashionista truly made the right decision by choosing to wear sturdy (and flat!) boots. Long hours of hunting for deals are never easy, and your feet shouldn’t have to suffer.
Being a Fashionista/o and a college student is never easy on your wallet, and that is where thrifting comes in. Thrifting is a great way to get a look that is creative and represents you. So don’t be afraid to hit the thift store in some warm layers and a pop of bling before this winter break ends!
One simple change: Her cargo jacket is perfect for a casual day out with friends. But by swapping it out with a quilted leather jacket, she can easily achieve a more polished night look!
