WHAT TO WEAR: On The Quad

What to Wear

The interesting thing about the quad here at CSUF is that not only will you never know what will take place there after you get out of class, but you’ll never know what to expect from the weather either. These days, the CSUF campus and students have been subject to the bipolar weather that defines Southern California. And as Fashionistas/os here or anywhere for that matter, we can never underestimate the need for versatile pieces.

I found this Fashionista peacefully listening to some music while waiting on the quad for some friends. She does a great job of taking different seasonal staples to create the perfect weatherproof outfit. Her infinity scarf, which everyone was wearing in the depths of winter, is heavy enough to be wrapped and bundled up earlier in the day, but light enough to be unwrapped and serve as an accent piece when the sun peeks out. She also has a light sheer tank with light stud detailing that serves as a wonderful layering device under denim jacket. Typically, we see Fashionistas wear sheer tops in the spring and summer, but the lightness and cut of the shirt are what makes it such a versatile piece for layering if the day turns out to be a gloomy one. Lace-up boots like hers are also great for walking around in because they give your feet that extra support you need to walk around campus while still giving off a chic-equestrian vibe. This Fashionista ingeniously coupled a hefty studded duffle bag to match with her studded tank, which is great way to fashionably conceal the load of books, homework, and supplies she may have brought for a day full of class.

This Fashionista has proved that by balancing with heavy and light fabrics, seasonal staples can actually be versatile all throughout the year.  But what really makes this outfit blend together is her subtle accenting of accessories. She wore some chain-drop earrings and a rhinestone knuckle ring, keeping in mind to make them match with her scarf and top. A pastel blue or periwinkle is a great transitional color between winter and spring, and can even be paired with darker hues of blue or black for an edgier look as the seasons change. No matter what the color is, though, the main goal when you’re walking around the quad is to wear an outfit that can withstand whatever occasion or weather that hits you.

One Simple Change: This Fashionista decided to show off her long and beautiful hombre hairstyle by keeping her hair down. But to display the earrings more, wear a simple up-do and let your bling do all the work.
