It is safe to say that a large portion of the life of a Fashionista/o is spent indulging in good food with good friends. As college students, the semester picks up and progresses so quickly that often we don’t get to embrace and enjoy the best meal of all: brunch. Luckily, I found this effortlessly chic Fashionista brunching with friends downtown in an ensemble that includes the perfect balance of texture, print, and color that is so fitting for a morning or afternoon filled with friends and more importantly, food.
When you think of the perfect brunch outfit, think of flexibility. Choose pieces that, like brunch, can last throughout the day. This Fashionista has perfectly executed the casual look people tend to aim for in the morning, but is still put together enough to run around in comfort for the rest of the day. Start off with a blank canvas of black tights and a breezy mid-length dress. The dress also a perfect way to hide any post-gluttony food babies you may acquire during brunch while still maintaining a level of chicness to the outfit. This Fashionista took a risk by integrating a minimalist dot pattern with the dress, and it worked out perfectly because of her complementing wedge booties. To continue to structure and layer this outfit to perfection, pair the base layers with a cropped denim jacket or blazer and finish the look off with a chunky knit scarf and pleather bag. Choosing neutral colors is the best way to insure that your outfit has flow and durability for whatever plans you have after brunch.
A fun way to kick up the neutrality of a brunchy outfit is by adding some flare with accessories. This Fashionista took a risk and integrated some contrasting geometric jewelry. Moreover, she added a chunky scarf to tie the outfit together. When searching for the perfect scarf to bring along with you to brunch, consider purchasing a runway reminiscent trend, a hooded scarf. Recently carried out by Carlos Miele and Christian Cota, the chic addition of a hood can change any seemingly one dimensional outfit into a mysterious and multifaceted ensemble. This Fashionista told me that this scarf was an amazing investment for her because here in Southern California, Winter and Spring mornings are unpredictable and you never know if you’ll need that extra warmth.
Whatever type of Fashionista/o you may be, we can all agree that there is no better occasion to dress up for than a meal with friends. So pile on some layers, add some chunky accessories, and go get yourself some brunch!
One simple change: This Fashionista fabulously pulled off a nude lip for a casual morning and afternoon. But for a more dramatic look to transition into the evening, swap the nude lip for a darker hue.
