European style has always been a springboard for the Australian fashion industry. This comes as no surprise given the polished, sophisticated and seemingly effortless nature of European collections seen by Italy’s Giorgio Armani and France’s Jean Paul Gaultier, to name a few. It is only natural then, that Australian males have been plagued with the need to emulate and even rival the European flair.
I spotted today’s Fashionisto doing just that, sporting a rather cool, casual yet chic look. The coordination of his parka-style jacket with a semi-fitted black pant achieves the right combination of comfortable, relaxed class. The jacket being lightweight yet wind-proof makes it an ideal piece in light of Melbourne’s precarious weather conditions and a staple for any male wardrobe.
What drew me to this Fashionisto, though, was his smart checked shirt, a piece which immediately livens up his ensemble, making it pop. The blue makes a statement by adding a fresh quality but is not so outrageous that it strays from winter’s colour palette.
The overall look is made snazzy with a pair of corporate-style loafers that can be worn with almost any pant, from a pair of skinny jeans to this Fashionisto’s looser trouser. Perhaps this look is one to rival that of Europeans.
Hint: Take a cue from this Fashionisto and wear matte-finish footwear for a casual look. For evenings on the other hand, upgrade to sheen-finish to sharpen up your outfit.
