LET’S HEAR IT FOR THE BOYS: The Final Countdown

Let's Hear it for the Boys

Finals week is upon is here at The University of Alabama, and with it comes coffee-induced all-nighters, the occasional panic attack and becoming very close friends with the library. It’s also the time you see your fellow students walking around like zombies, some still with life in their eyes, others too far gone to save.

During this time you may be tempted to roll out of bed and walk out the door in your pajamas or throw on head-to-toe sweats for a marathon study session, however you should take the five extra minutes it takes to put on actual pants that include a zipper and a button. This may seem unnecessary, but the phrase, “dress for success” is so popular for a reason. A lot of times when you feel more put together, you feel more confident resulting in an extra boost of confidence during a test. Also, if you wear something resembling pajamas to study in, you will eventually start to get sleepy and unproductive. Even just putting on jeans and a cotton T-shirt can perk you up a bit more to have a more productive study session.

This week’s Fashionisto is a perfect example of what to wear during finals week. His outfit is complete with a few simple, easy to throw on pieces, but he still looks put together. It’s made up of loose-fitting Levi Brand Jeans, a button-down, a Hane’s sweatshirt, Sperry Top-Siders, and a laptop bag. See? Easy peasy and still comfortable enough to sit for hours in the library.

Hint: Don’t give up on your clothing choices just because it’s finals week! Feeling put together results in more productive study time and more confident test taking.

LET’S HEAR IT FOR THE BOYS: The Final Countdown

Let's Hear it for the Boys

With holiday gifts and winter ski trips just around the corner, GW is buzzing with the excitement of break. However, as winter vacation draws nearer, a black cloud of doom seems to be dulling the holiday enthusiasm with its shadow of misery and despair. We fondly know this desolate haze as finals. Library stacks replace beds, coffee replaces meals and sleep becomes nothing more than a pleasant memory of better times. While finals week may rob us of our rest, nutrition and overall mental stability, Fashionistos around campus have proven that these terrible tests will not strip us of our personal style.

I spotted this Fashionisto taking at coffee break outside of the Gelman library. I was immediately captivated with his comfortable yet chic study outfit, and his ability to look good even during the peak of final's exhaustion. His heather grey American Apparel zip-up sweatshirt is a casual chic loungewear basic that keeps him warm and appropriately dressed for campus wear. He dresses up the sweatshirt with his vintage military jacket, thereby making him look more polished and eclectic. The layers of this outfit work well because he can adjust his ensemble to keep him comfortable inside the library, yet stylish at campus social spots, like Starbucks. This Fashionisto pairs this combination with his staple 7 For All Mankind jeans and Ferragamo loafers. This library-chic look is accessorized with a cool pair of Ray-Bans in a rare print. Stylish shades are the ultimate finals study-chic staple as they look stylish while hiding those bloodshot eyes and insomniac sleepy bags.  Topping off his finals fashions, the sports a North Face backpack and a steaming cup of Starbucks coffee.

Want to earn straight A’s in final's style? Luckily, this easy-going outfit is full of staples stocked at stores year round. Besides sweatshirt Mecca American Apparel, Ever and Alternative Apparel provide a variety of solid basic zip-ups. If you love that California laid-back surf style, Free City and Aviator Nation design sweatshirts in fun colors and charming graphics. J.Crew, Urban Outfitters and Levis stock casual military jackets in classic tan and army green chino. For a more decorated version, Ralph Lauren’s Denim & Supply line sell aviator jackets with patches zippers and other adornments. If you want to score wayfarer sunglasses, Ray-Ban, Super or Oakley frogskin are all great options. For a more affordable version, Knockaround makes cheap wayfarers that come in an endless variety of colors and patterns — even offering an option to customize your own shades!
