When studying men's daily wear in Madison, you will most likely notice that a plaid shirt is a staple for the majority of the campus. With the temperatures dropping, a nice, cozy flannel is an easy option to quickly throw on before rushing to your morning class. However, this week's Fashionisto switches things up and makes a sleek statement while still working the plaid with his TOMS.
Creating a sleek look in the winter is sometimes hard to do. First things first, finding a coat that is not only warm but also gives you an edgy look is crucial. I’ve noticed that men typically only have one coat that they wear throughout the winter; make sure to find a color that fits with your style. Black and darker grays are great because they go with everything and also stay “clean” for the most part. If you tend to wear jeans the majority of the time, look for a burgundy or khaki style instead. Longer coats, like the one pictured, are also great to consider because they cover more area, which equals more warmth.
TOMS are definitely comfy and come in a plethora of prints, but as soon as the snow hits you’re going to need something a little more durable. Try incorporating the plaid shoe with Palladium boots or Sorel's for a more professional look. Not only do they keep you dry, but they also look better than your typical Timberlands.
Don’t hesitate to complete your look with a beanie, scarf or both combined. Don’t use the brutal winter as an excuse to let your style become too generic!
