When I saw this Fashionisto I couldn’t figure out why he stood out so much to me, but then it clicked. His look encompasses many of the outfit posts I’ve submitted previously, but with one major difference—tattoos. Granted it’s possible that some of the previous Fashionistos were tatted up, but he is the first to put an entirely different kind of sleeve on display.
Let’s focus on his look first. As I’ve said in previous posts, keeping it simple and classic is not a bad thing, especially when easy trends and accessories are used to display personal style. The easy trend? Cuffed jeans are pretty major for 2012. It isn’t anything revolutionary, but men and women alike are taking a James Dean approach to their denim this fall. I love it because it’s a way to change up your look at no cost. The accessory? His hat, it simultaneously gives a nice pop of color to a neutral driven look, and shows off his skater style subtly. Be it a trucker hat like this Fashionisto, a beanie, a snapback, a fedora, a newsboy cap or any of the other hat options out there; this accessory reverts back to the idea that the details of an outfit can be sensible and fashionable. It should never have to be one or the other.
Now, onto the new. More and more tattoos are becoming intertwined with fashion as part of a person’s personal style. In the last decade or so it seems tattoos have become more widely accepted. Whereas previously there was a stigma behind tattoos that could inhibit your ability to get hired, it appears tattoos are seen as a personal expression rather than rebellious act. This Fashionisto’s tattoos, which were actually going to be finished later on the day that these photos were taken, are a nod to his family’s French heritage. Up close you can see the detail, and it really is a piece of art. I personally find comfort in the idea that while fashion and trends are always changing, tattoos are something that can remain with you as a memory with evolving meaning.
Hint: Not sure what to wear with cuffed jeans beyond sneakers? Ankle boots always look great.
