On my walk back to my dorm I always hope that I will see a male who is not clad in shorts and a t-shirt, and everyday I am let down. It is very seldom that I will find a Fashionisto on that long trek across campus, and when I do, I hurry after to see if they would like a photo taken for CollegeFashionista. While I have received a few, “no thanks,’” for the most part the boys are flattered that I want to photograph them. And it makes my job even better when my subjects deliberately dress the way they do, purposefully incorporating elements seen on the runways — this Fashionisto does just that and has done it right, down to the accessories.
Denim button-downs are a personal favorite and this Fashionisto buttons up the shirt all the way, emphasizing the collar as seen in Dsquared’s Fall 2012 menswear collection. As it turns out, this Fashionisto is an avid fashion-goer and has his own fashion blog, The Style Inquisitor, where he explores a journalistic approach to the industry, so his dapper style comes as no surprise. His rolled twill khaki pants offer an alternative to the usual denim and black combination often seen on women. The distressed leather sneakers this Fashionisto wears from Zara add a certain lightness to his overall look and it was nice to see another shoe other than the famous Clarks desert boot that seems to be the latest craze amongst males at the University of Texas. His outfit remains incomplete without his Cambridge satchel-esque bag that replaces a normal backpack and the Native American ring and thick leather bracelet balance the rest of his look, which is really quite minimalist. This Fashionisto's sunglasses are also quite unique, unlike the usual wayfarer seen on boys, and he revealed they were from 80s Purple.
Hint: Try wearing other bags other than the usual Jansport backpack. Satchels or even leather backpacks are the best alternative that can really transform a simple outfit into a exceptional one. For those who only carry a laptop or iPad, sleek sleeves can also complete a look!
