I love dressing to suit my mood, but I’ve also written many times about the importance of dressing to suit Mother Nature’s mood, too. As we say goodbye to March, but not our winter coats, I’m remembering just how moody she is. This year, it’s been hard to figure out which parts of our wardrobes we should retire, and which sections we hang on to. In this harrowing time, we must remember the mainstays of our wardrobe, the glue that holds our closets together and gets us through the transitional period between winter and spring. I’ve heard you can judge a man’s character by three of these mainstays: his wallet, his watch and his shoes.
I’m not the best judge of character, but if his choice of accessories says anything about him, this Fashionisto is the Mother Teresa of dressing, and I didn’t even ask about his wallet. He has an eye for detail, with his watch, necklace and shoes all in coordinating shades of brown leather. Rather than choosing a basic boot, his are brogue boots with a classic wingtip. The lighter, neutral color scheme of his look is a perfect complement to these accessories, as it allows them to stand out. He also tops off his outfit with a smart fedora, rescuing the fedora from an unfortunate fate as the Hills-era bro hat of choice. Ultimately, the outfit is sophisticated but not overdone, casual and well put-together.
Hint: As the weather gets warmer, trade in boots like this Fashionisto’s for a brogue. This pair is a modern, classy take on the shoe that you can dress down or up for the impending outdoor party circuit. I love this Fashionisto’s vest, and if you’d like to try it out with a bit of color for spring, try this fisherman’s vest by Universal Works. Pair it with a light crewneck sweater to emulate his laidback, classy look. Happy dressing!
