The first day of classes might as well be fashion week for college kids. All around campus, guys and gals are decked out in their very best digs, and have yet to retreat back into the vicious cycle of over-sized sweats and sneakers. State College is no stranger to this phenomenon, and students all around campus were at the very top of their sartorial game this syllabus week. I spotted this Fashionisto heading to class and immediately stopped him to snap a pic of his ensemble.
Decked out in a coral, striped button-down and a pair of jeans, the look is classic with a preppy boy vibe. The twist that caught my attention and made me look twice was this Fashionisto’s beat up pair of Vans sneaks. Vans, the original skater dude staple, give this otherwise preppy look an interesting rebel-boy edge. The look is still classic enough to transition from season to season and appropriate for various back-to-school occasions, easily taking this fashionable fellow from class to a casual hangout with friends on the Old Main lawn. His black backpack with leather accents is just as easily transitional as his look, and is the perfect carry-all for all those brand new books. It is a timeless staple in a busy student’s wardrobe, and similar styles are always available at any old Urban Outfitters.
Hint: J.Crew might as well be a mecca for classic button-downs and offers an impeccable array in every color and pattern seen to man (more or less Fashionisto heaven). For an instant cool-boy swagger, pair a bold patterned button-down with a pair of straight-legged jeans, classic khaki Vans and—if you’re feeling really ambitious—your fave snapback. Cuff the sleeves and the bottom of your jeans and hit the streets, but be prepared, once those Vans hit the pavement the ladies will be dancing at your feet!
