March is a rather eventful month for Texans. Starting the Texan Independence Day on March 2nd, the month only gets packed with more events, including the annual rodeo and livestock show in Houston and the highly anticipated SXSW in Austin. It is not a boring month in the Lonestar State, to say the least. It should come to no surprise that native Texans around the university are not hiding their Texan pride during March.
When I started at University of Texas, the first thing I was told was that I needed to purchase a hardy pair of cowgirl boots if I wanted to survive in this huge public institution that prides itself on its school spirit and love for the state of Texas. Although I have yet to purchase a good pair of cowgirl boots, I take note in everybody else’s choice of Western shoes. And for that reason, this Fashionisto’s distressed suede cowboy boots needed to be documented.
As a Texan, you learn that there exists a plethora of Western wear fanatics who will pay over $500 for a pair of cowboy boots. It also turns out that many of these fanatics prefer the distraught look and spend many years distressing their cowboy boots, until they have reached perfection. Looks like avid Western gear lovers have a lot in common with the Fashionistas/Fashionistos of today — we think vintage is better.
This Fashionisto sports the look of an urban rodeo goer — that is, he mucks with the conventional Western look and suits up. He accomplishes this with his knit blazer and striped tie. His dark frames add a modern touch to a classic Texan look. This look is suited for both a casual and a more dressed up setting. This Fashionisto is not scared to wear color either. His navy hued pleat-less slacks and blue button-down are well paired with a toned down heather gray blazer and his tie adds some pattern to his entire ensemble. His cowboy boots have an unusual shade of brown and work well with his cool-toned look.
Hint: Take a classic style and add your own touch to it, whether it be a mod-James Bond look or a new take on the vintage Bill Cosby sweater. Men’s fashion doesn’t change as much as you think it does, but it’s always refreshing to see a new take on an old classic.
