Choosing your winter coat (or even deciding to stick with the one you’ve got) is no small decision. The sheer number of options can be somewhat intimidating, but because it is such a crucial part of your winter wardrobe, it is imperative you make the right choice. While we continue to experience sub-zero temperatures and gale force winds, your coat will cover pretty much your entire outfit and you will most likely be wearing it almost every day. Therefore, wearing something you are not completely comfortable in is not an option.
With this in mind, I thought I would go ahead and suggest my personal favorite: the peacoat. Why the peacoat? It is a clean, simple and elegant coat that suits any style and almost every occasion. I caught this Fashionisto on his way to dinner, and I couldn’t help but admire his effortlessly cool take on the timeless piece. Gone are the days of super-slim silhouettes, because this Fashionisto shows us men’s wear is finally starting to relax. His loose double-breasted pea coat was right on trend for the winter season. However, please take note that pulling off this boxier apparel doesn’t mean wearing a coat that 3x bigger than your size, to achieve this look details and construction are a must.
One of the best parts of this Fashionisto’s look was layering. He combines a mixture of textures to create a warm, yet exciting look. A classic collared dress shirt completed with a super sleek gray cardigan is the perfect way to layer lightly and still look fashionable. The fall runways showed us that gray has become the new black. Opt for something gray this season to add more style to your look.
Hint: Another way to keep this loose look sleek is by sticking to darker shades of wool and varying the textures. It’s all about feeling comfortable and relaxed in your coat of choice, but in order to achieve this look attention to fit is key.
