LET’S HEAR IT FOR THE BOYS: The Breton Stripe Lives On

Let's Hear it for the Boys

I’ll be the first person to admit that I am not well-versed in men’s fashion. However, when I saw this Fashionisto around campus, I instantly knew that his outfit was entirely fashion-forward. When are Breton stripes ever not trendy? The campaigns of Dolce&Gabbana and Tommy Hilfiger and the runways of Jean Paul Gaultier (who has made it his signature) and Salvatore Ferragamo have definitely proved that the stripe is here to stay.

As winter is nearly upon us in Melbourne, this Fashionisto has chosen to sport this trend in the form of a navy jumper. He has paired his jumper with a simple black top, pants and shoes. These muted pieces of clothing have allowed for his navy jumper to make a statement. Nothing says “French Rivera Chic” better than Breton stripes and blacks. This Fashionisto finishes the look with a vintage leather bag that he found in his basement. It is the perfect size for a student and a great find to accomodate the small college budget. The color of the bag perfectly rounds off his outfit and adds another dimension to his outfit. This timeless jumper can definitely be layered upon and repeated, making it a staple in any wardrobe.

Hint: Currently enjoying the start of your summer? You can still take inspiration from this Fashionisto! The Breton stripe is so versatile that it can be worn all year long by both sexes! Swap out the dark colors for something more summery, like this classic Breton stripe T-shirt or this pastel-striped shirt. Feeling a bit more adventurous? Try a fun-printed shirt or experiment with some striped shorts!

Invest in a good Breton stripe piece this season because they’ll never go out of style. It can stay in your wardrobe for seasons to come. Teen heartthrobs of all generations from James Dean to Louis Tomlinson love the stripe, so why can’t you?
