Throwback Thursday (#tbt) has become such a phenomenon on Instagram in the past couple of years, so in honor of that I’m going to do a Throwback Tuesday (still #tbt). Pretty much all kids in college right now are products of the ’90s and are still nostalgic about a time when all the cool girls in school had crimped hair and the guys wore overalls and bucket hats. It was a time when bight colors and kooky patterns were so in (the brighter and kookier, the better). These trends have made their way back around to runways and designer collections and are now very much in style once again.
This Fashionisto is rocking quite a few trends from the ‘90s. First off, the graphic sweatshirt has a cool and casual vibe that features the bright colors that were oh so popular in ‘90s. The vintage car and silly dinosaur, along with the rainbow in the back, are printed in a faded way to make the sweatshirt seem like it is actually from 20+ years ago. This Fashionisto’s bucket hat has a print that continues the theme of bright colors on his sweatshirt. It’s a fun accessory that is a great twist on the classic baseball cap and it keeps the sun out of your eyes from all angles! The Nike Dunks this Fashionisto is wearing are a pearly/metallic silver and add a sort of futuristic feel to the outfit.
This Fashionisto also has on plain, black skinny jeans and a basic, black puffer jacket. These pieces are essential to keep the outfit modern and wearable and allow you to wear some really cool statement pieces without looking super silly. When you’re wearing the ‘90s trend, make sure that you remember that we are not actually in the ‘90s; it’s 2014, so keep your outfits sensible. This doesn’t mean that you can’t experiment with the look and try really outlandish pieces, just make sure that you aren’t walking out of the house in neon parachute pants, a tie-dye T-shirt and frosted tips. As long as you have fun with the look while keeping it relevant, why not live every day like it’s #tbt?
Hint: For some cool ’90s pieces like this Fashionisto is wearing, check out Urban Outfitters and ASOS. Urban has great graphic tees and sweatshirts, while ASOS has some great accessories like hats and shoes that go with the trend. For some good base pieces to keep your outfit grounded, try dark skinnies like this Fashionisto and a plain outerwear piece to keep you warm.
