Sweater weather is finally making its way onto the stage in Gainesville. This time of the year is my favorite for fashion on campus. Guys are wearing more fashionable outfits, as they have to start pulling out their jackets, sweaters and long sleeve shirts to layer with and accommodate the weather.
This is the prime time in Florida to layer clothing pieces because before 11 a.m. and after 4 p.m., it’s quite chilly. In between those times, the sun shows no mercy. Not only does layering add texture and diversity to an outfit, but it also lets you have the choice to take different items on or off, depending on the temperature.
When I saw today’s Fashionisto, I loved how he was taking on the varying weather. He wore a red and white striped T-shirt, like this one from ASOS, underneath a thick, white quarter zip sweater. He paired them with cuffed jeans and loafers. He also wore a classic pair of Ray-Ban Wayfarers. As the day began to get increasingly warmer, he could easily have taken off his thick sweater and just worn his T-shirt. If the day got colder, he could have rolled down his jeans and added socks with his loafers to stay warm.
What is beautiful about the weather right now is that there is so much you can do with outfits by simply layering pieces together. My favorite element of this Fashionisto’s outfit is how his bold red striped T-shirt could be seen underneath the sweater’s zipper. Adding a pop of pattern to the outfit made him look much more interesting than if he were to wear the sweater alone.
Hint: For even colder weather, try adding a brown leather jacket over a sweater; it will create an outfit that is visually appealing.
