One of my favorite things about the holiday season is that it is always full of opportunities to get dressed up. Whether it is for a holiday party, gift exchange or a play at the local theatre, some event always pops up that requires a more formal ensemble. For men, though the staples are typically a dress shirt and tie, there really are many options when creating the perfect dressy look.
This week I spotted a Fashionisto who not only rocked a dressed up outfit, but totally ditched the traditional tie for some other eye-catching accessories. At first glance his outfit may seem rather simple, but when you take a second look you can really appreciate some of the subtle details that he used in order to add his own flare to what can often be an uptight ensemble. As I analyzed his outfit, I started by first looking at his button-down shirt. Although it may read as a solid from far away, up close you are able to see that it has a very fine pinstripe and a collar that total pops. Along with his jazzy shirt, this Fashionisto chose a pair of classic black dress pants, but once again paid attention to the details by sporting a bold black belt with silver buckle. What I like about this outfit is that it doesn’t scream for attention with flashy accessories, but instead utilizes subtle details in order to add both sophistication and interest to the look as a whole.
In my opinion, when getting dressed up for any holiday event, your outfit shouldn’t steal the show. Although you want to put your best (and most stylish) foot forward, you want your outfit to highlight you rather than overpower you. By utilizing subtle details within your formal ensemble, you will surely look the part while still letting your personality shine.
Hint: When it comes to dressy menswear, the options are endless. Try wearing accessories such as a patterned tie, pocket square or cuff links. Just remember not to overdo it, and don’t let the accessories overpower the outfit itself.
