Amongst a great collection of pieces every man should own, I saw this guy’s boots and double denim and immediately went in for a closer look. For some reason I feel like I don’t see Fashionistos around campus rocking looks like this too often, especially not complemented to perfection, like in this case. He almost looks like he walked right out of a magazine or movie set, freshly styled down to every last detail—his jacket is even cuffed just right. Denim jackets are no longer reserved for the old rockers and John Benders of the world; men’s fashion has come a long way, and today no style or piece could possibly be limited to one kind of look.
He took a classic, casual approach and built on it with some bona fide staples, great accessories and really cool boots. His first layer is a simple, white, graphic T-shirt with a pop of red like this one from Urban Outfitters, and a pair of perfectly fitted blue jeans. Fitted jeans in blue and black are closet musts, in my opinion. Anyway, like one would typically imagine, by no means does his ensemble end there. He busts out his own interpretation of a tricky trend, denim on denim. The perfect denim jacket is hard to find, but when you do, you’ll never rid of this versatile, transitional piece. Try this perfect wash jacket from rag & bone to add to any look; it looks great with a pair of worn, brown boots like his to add to that rugged appearance.
Like mine, his accessories are minimal, but I think they go a long way and definitely haven’t been overlooked. A brown leather watch and rustic ring complement his boots, further playing on his slightly rugged but overall refined look. Black-rimmed glasses like his also help to refine the look with their sleek edge. Like I said, even the simplest jewelry can make a large difference. For something similar, try a watch like this from ASOS—it will do more for your ensemble than you think.
Today this Fashionisto taught us a bunch, including how to accessorize perfectly and how to take minimal, staple pieces and put them together for a cohesive and rugged look. Let’s not forget to mention an exemplary job incorporating denim on denim. Take inspiration from him to go that tiny extra mile to make your ensemble one step above the rest.
Hint: If you have a denim jacket in your closet or have been considering adding one to your wardrobe, don’t fret if you’re not sure what to wear it with. Like I said above, these days no piece can be limited to any one look. So, try all your favorites, from cut-offs to different colored chinos, even some more denim! From there the classic jean jacket is cake.
