It feels like all we saw on the spring 2013 runway at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week is stripes. Thin, thick, horizontal, vertical, bright or subdued, you name it — we saw it. Despite what some may think, this trend is not just limited to Fashionistas, men were spotted rocking this look on the runway as well. All the major designers from Giorgio Armani to Marc Jacobs to Jean Paul Gaultier incorporated stripes into their spring 13 menswear lines. This classic pattern is always fun for the spring and summer months, as it looks great in color and can be dressed up or down. Plus, what girl doesn’t love a man in nautical stripes?
I spotted this Fashionisto on campus sporting a horizontally striped, navy and sky blue, zip-down sweater. This young man explained he was on his way to a date. The look he was going for was traditional and he did not want to be too casual but not too dressed up either — I think he got it just right! This Fashionisto incorporated another big trend of layering different pieces. With the unpredictable New England weather, it is always better to be over-prepared than underprepared. He paired his sweater with a crisp, white oxford underneath so the focus of the sweater would not be overpowered. To finish off the whole look, he threw on a pair of light colored khakis and his button-down, dark tan jacket with a fleece-lined collar.
Hint: Do you want to rock this season’s hottest trend? If yes, then start off small. Subtly incorporate stripes into your look by going for a smaller scale in more saturated hues. This will allow you to get used to the trend while building up to the bright, bulky stripes that are oh so fun for summer!
