It’s here at last—a week free of midterms and essays and hopefully filled with sun, sand and saltwater. Spring break gives us all some desperately needed time to unwind and de-stress, but make no mistake: It is definitely not a free pass to wear cheesy T-shirts and embarrassingly short shorts. An outfit like this Fashionisto’s is great for a relaxing afternoon on any spring vacation, whether you’re soaking up some Florida sunshine or partying on the beaches of Cancun.
When incorporating color into your spring break ensembles, start with something basic and light—not fluorescent orange swimming trunks. A pair of pale blue Chaps shorts, like this Fashionisto’s, is the perfect way to brighten up your outfit without having to worry about stopping traffic. Try to be mindful of length, as well. Hemlines shouldn’t only be of concern to women.
As far as footwear goes, consider the plans and wear something sensible. Flip flops are fine for a morning at the pool, but not for a day spent exploring the town. If your day calls for shoes that offer a bit more support, some casual Sperry Top-Siders will be much more ideal.
Be sure to consider your plans when choosing a top, too. Collared shirts might not be the best beach attire, but they’re great for nearly every other occasion. If you want to keep things simple and show off your new tan, opt for a shirt like this Fashionisto’s plain white polo. But if you would like your outfit to make more of a statement, try color-blocking with another light shade or go for a bold, striped top.
Hint: This look can easily transition from day to night. Feel free to swap the polo out for a more comfortable T-shirt and throw on some sunglasses for a daytime adventure, or trade the Sperry Top-Siders for loafers and add a leather belt for a nice dinner out.
