We’ve officially begun the fall semester, and you can definitely feel a chill in the air. Don’t worry though; the snow hasn’t started to fall, so copious layers and jackets aren’t weighing down any fashion trends (yet). However, light jackets and sweaters have been seen on many students—especially those who take early morning classes. While it’s sad to say goodbye to shorts, sandals and summer, I welcome the highly awaited sweater weather.
This Fashionisto is spot on in making the transition into a cooler wardrobe! He stands by a classic fashion rule: when dealing with an eccentric pattern or bright color, keep other pieces of the outfit plain and simple to maintain a focal point as well as to avoid a chaotic clash of colors and patterns. His polka-dot button-down draws the eye, but doesn’t seem gaudy or garish. It’s a classic piece with a younger and trendier twist. When paired with his tailored, dark-wash jeans he achieves a simple yet well put-together look. His traditional Converse high-tops fit the outfit well, and their dark color doesn’t distract from or lessen the rest of the outfit. Finally, he picks a classic maroon cardigan, which emphasizes the polka-dots in the shirt without going too far and is equally perfect for chillier weather.
Hint: If you have yet to stock up on comfy cardigans and other layering pieces try a bold new color like this cardigan in red. If you’re opting for a more neutral tone, look here. Remember though, don’t go over the top with colors and patterns, but also don’t play it too safe—experiment!
