Men’s fashion, especially in college, is all about convenience. Is this T-shirt clean? Awesome, I’ll wear it. Men rarely have the dilemma of looking into a closet full of clothes and having “nothing to wear.” The slip-on is the ultimate shoe when it comes to convenience. There’s no hassle when it comes making sure your shoes are tied tightly and don’t come undone on the walk to class.
There are tons of styles of slip-on shoes. First, there are boat shoes. The most well known brands are Sperry Top-Siders and Sebago Docksides. Second, there are slippers. And no, I’m not talking about the slippers you wear around the house, but slippers you can wear with more formal attire. Third, there are loafers, which are similar but have a stronger sole than moccasins. Finally, there are slip-on sneakers, like Vans.
This week’s Fashionisto was spotted walking through the Carl Hansen Student Center. He wore a light gray button-down sweatshirt with a maroon V-neck underneath. For bottoms, he wore dark wash jeans and for shoes, he wore off-white slip-on sneakers. The off-white color is enough of a difference from plain white, but close enough to keep the versatility of a white shoe.
Hint: If you’re looking for a versatile pair of slip-on sneakers, look no further than the classic Vans checkerboard slip-on. They are a bit of a throwback, but there’s a reason why they are still a “best-seller” on the Vans website. They come in different colors such as black, red and pewter.
