As college students, many of us tend to spend hours struggling through classes, stressing over exams and sifting through books. We are taught to pay attention to detail and take our studies seriously. Whereas all this is well and good, sometimes what we really need to do is simplify things. Remove the thought process and just go with the flow. Now we can’t simply lose our books, homework or exams, but what we can simplify, every once in a while, is our outfit. I know from personal experience that when waking up in morning after a three-hour night of sleep with an exam to get to before 8:00 am, the last thing I want to put thought into is my outfit. So with that said, here are my tips for a seasonal, yet simple ensemble for those days when you just need a break.
First off, I’d like to point out that this week’s Fashionisto is a senior Fashion Design major here at Kent State. So needless to say his weeks are both long and demanding and he spends the majority of his time putting thought and effort into fashion. However, even he needs to simplify his wardrobe sometimes. What I like about his look is that he has chosen key pieces in order to endure the chilly weather and also wore what I would consider to be traditional fall colors. In this seasonally simple outfit, this Fashionisto is layering a T-shirt with a thick forest green pullover in order to keep him warm in these brisk October winds. He is also wearing a pair of dark wash jeans and comfortable brown canvas shoes. To me, this look is the perfect way to be warm, comfortable and seasonal without simply walking to class in a pair of flannel pajamas.
Basically, when breaking down this look into manageable tips on how to keep your sanity and simply your outfit, it comes down to three points: dress for the weather, keep it comfortable and, if anything, go with a color palette that is seasonally appropriate. Keep these three things in mind the next time you find yourself wrapped up in your studies with no time to think, and you will surely wind up looking seasonally simple.
Hint: The idea of this look is to not have to put much effort into it, but keep in mind that you don’t want to look like you got dressed in the dark. By dressing in a seasonal color palette, you will look both sane and put together and still not have to put too much thought into the outfit.
