Layer it on! Club Monaco’s spring 2013 lookbook features all street style photographs of guys in lots of layers. But it’s not your classic layering just to keep warm. Because each piece of the look is important, every layer is seen. Why hide such great pieces and details such as the black buttons and side pockets? Let your taste show while also staying protected from the wind and cold. Like this Fashionisto demonstrates, with a knit sweater, patterned scarf and jacket, layering works really well. What I like about this Fashionisto is that he keeps the scarf underneath the sweater.
Chunky knitwear is a winter essential. They come in a variety of colors, patterns and textures and are a definite must-have for the cold seasons because, not only do they keep you warm, they keep you looking stylish too. You can find your own knit here. Depending on the length, it is also nice to have some of the scarf coming out the bottom of either your sweater, vest or even your classic black peacoat.
I also think the neutral grays of his jeans and Elie Tahari jacket are a nice combination. I personally like the way a skinny jean looks on guys, but I believe the tighter the jeans, the more casual the look should be. This Fashionisto keeps his outfit laid-back with a pair of beat up Converse and a baseball hat. ASOS and Topman are great websites to check out for skinny jeans and baseball hats. Now that football season has come to an end, what better to bring in the spring season by representing your favorite teams hat to accessorize your outfit.
Though, I wouldn’t say that every flashy logo and bright color is in the running for a polished look. Try to stick with simple designs and monotone colors like gray, navy or even a dark green like the one featured in my photo if you aren’t actually going to the game. Hopefully the World Series this year doesn’t run into any electrical problems…
Baseball caps were actually featured on some of last springs runways, including, Alexander Wang, Dior and DKNY. Imitate these designer looks by giving off a youthful vibe, while also incorporating an urban look with a baseball cap.
Hint: Combining some street style with a sports influence is a good strategy to look stylish and put together, while also keeping casual.
