Real men do wear pink! Gone are the days where certain colors are set aside for certain times of year or certain people. No white after Labor Day is a thing of the past as winter white takes over stores and brown and black can definitely be worn in the same outfit. Girls wear blue without thinking twice, so the hesitation with purples and pinks should not be any different. What makes us think a certain color is strictly a girl color or a guy color? It is all in our heads! So now is the time to break the barrier and wear those pastels with pride, boys!
Men wearing pink is more of an attitude rather than a style trend. Plus, it is not about the color, rather how you wear it! This week’s Fashionisto confidently dressed in his hot pink V-neck, chambray shirt and khakis as he made his walk to class. The layering of the chambray over his brightly colored V-neck was a great way to tone down the color, while the khakis kept the outfit still looking classic and cool. Finally, his choice of accessories including his silver Fossil watch and Sperry Top-Siders that tied in the exact color of the chambray were excellent finishing touches.
The use of color in fashion is the best way to express yourself. A pop of any color can go a long way, so if you are still tentative about pinks, just incorporate it in subtle ways and with traditional masculine pieces. Items like flannels, button-down shirts, tennis shoes and hoodies are traditionally and most often worn by men, so incorporate the color in these pieces and you won’t think twice about looking silly in the color. Possibly the subtlest way possible to wear the trend would be a pink tie in your business casual ensemble; it is as simple as that.
The best fashion advice I can give out when it comes to this dilemma some boys face is if you like it, wear it, and if you can style it, try it. When pink is integrated into men’s street style, it is always eye-catching, and who doesn’t want that? I for one know many girls who find a man who wears their pastel pinks and purples to be very masculine and confident, not girly or outdated.
Hint: Most stores have a vast amount of options when it comes to these untraditional colors. Whether you shop at Hollister Co., Urban Outfitters or Express, there is no doubt in my mind that you will have trouble finding these pretty pastels. Just go for it!
